A Feast of Lights Art Salon

A Feast of Lights

Finding Light and Hope in the Midst of Darkness
February 10 – 12, 2017 (Dates in 2018: Feb 2-4 )
Sturbridge, Massachusetts

At the season of the Celtic festival of Imbolg or midwinter, when the cold is deepest, A Feast of Lights is a time to gather to rekindle our fires, to find warmth in community and tap into the strength of the returning light. This winter, more than ever, we need the promise of that small flame in the darkness, and so we will stir together a rich community with a wonderful collection of teachers, performers, artists, and merchants. Together, we will kindle the fire within to nourish our spirits and minds through the dark of winter and the challenges to come.

This very special weekend is a time to celebrate with and learn from each other, a time to find power – in the old traditions, in creative and artistic expression, and in vibrant discussion and planning direction for the coming year. Come to make music, listen, learn, dance, shop, laugh, reflect, and enjoy warm company. Come to look toward the future, to think and to make plans. As we share with one another, and support one another, we can feel the spark of life, hidden deep beneath the snows of winter, begin to glow warm within our hearts.

Features include: The Art Salon, rituals, merchants, workshops, a clothing swap, Saturday’s plenary session: “Dancing on Uneven Ground” and The Stag King’s Masque – a masquerade feast with ritual theater and dancing.

Scheduled programs begin midday on Friday, February 10 and continue until late afternoon on Sunday, February 12

With these special events alongside the workshops, crafting, discussions and performances during the days it will be a full weekend!

The Stag King’s Masque is a celebratory journey into another realm.
With a masquerade dance and ritual, we travel into the forest at night to the court of the Stag King, where we join the creatures of the Otherworld at midwinter to revel and celebrate the darkest time of the year.

Please come in a wintry costume to immerse yourself in the magic of the Stag King’s court.

The evening will feature music from Kidimandi and live painting with Martin Bridge, Jesse Massaro and other artists.

Discussions about engagement with the issues of environment, diversity / social justice and choices will be a thread in which anyone interested may participate.

Our Location:

Sturbridge Host Hotel and Conference Center

We have a special reduced rate of $102 per single or double room with $10 additional for each additional person. When you register online, you will receive instructions about how to use a group code to reserve your discounted room online.

If you register on paper, you may also call the hotel directly to reserve your room and let them know you are with A Feast of Lights. The cut off date for this special price is January 20, 2017, and there will be others at the hotel that weekend, so to be sure of a room it is best to register and reserve as soon as possible.

The hotel is a wonderful space for us, and one in which we can grow over time. It is on a lake and has outdoor space, including a firepit, that we can use. There is an indoor pool, many accommodating meeting spaces, restaurants that are open for all meals, and a great Merchant Room.
